How to Fix Your DSi When the Screen Goes All White

The Nintendo DSi is a portable hand-held system manufactured by Nintendo that offers a dual-monitor, touchscreen experience for gamers. The system has been known to suffer from a problem in which the bottom screen turns white, rendering it useless. The persistence of the effect requires that you replace your DSi's bottom screen altogether, as the white effect on the DSi's bottom screen is a rare but documented problem that is connected to general screen failure. This task does not require the assistance of a professional repairman. You may perform the screen replacement regardless of your experience with electronics troubleshooting.

  Shut down your Nintendo DSi and power it back on. Check the screen to see whether the white effect has disappeared.

  Power down your Nintendo DSi once more and ensure that the game cartridge and stylus are removed from the top of the system.

  Close the Nintendo DSi and turn the device over to remove the battery. The battery is on the left of the rear of the device and can simply be pried out.

  Remove each of the seven screws from the rear of the Nintendo DSi using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Take out each of the screws from the bottom corners of the game system, then remove the five additional screws along the top of the back of the device.

  Remove the back cover. To do so, pry along its edges and lift it up and away from the device.

  Look along the green motherboard that exists behind the Nintendo DSi's back cover. Remove the three cables that lie at the bottom center of the motherboard. Each cable extends into a separate black connector on the bottom of the motherboard, so lift up slightly on each connector to pull each cable out.

  Remove the Nintendo DSi's power wires. The power wires are held in place by a single white connector on the bottom center of the motherboard. Use the edge of a flat-head screwdriver to push the power wire connector upward, releasing the power wires.

  Remove the four screws directly on the Nintendo DSi's motherboard with the Phillips-head screwdriver. There are three on the motherboard's left side and an additional screw near the top right corner.

  Lift the motherboard partially out of the DSi. Note that it is still connected by two cables, so do not remove it entirely. Instead, lay the motherboard off to the side of the DSi and leave it connected as is.

  Remove the bottom LCD touch screen from the Nintendo DSi. It will now be completely loose.

  Slide the new, replacement bottom Nintendo DSi touch screen into the spot vacated by the old bottom screen.

  Reconnect all the components and wires as before, performing each procedure in reverse fashion from the way you took apart the device.

  Power the Nintendo DSi back on. Check to see whether the white-screen effect is gone.
