Shampoodle
The only hair salon in town is Shampoodle, located within Nookington's department store. If your town does not yet have a Nookington's, you need to upgrade by spending 200,000 bell at the store and having a friend visit your town via Wi-Fi and purchase something from the store. To receive a haircut, talk to Harriet inside the Shampoodle salon. Each time you receive a haircut, it costs 3,000 bells, so collect some items around town to sell to Tom Nook if you are low on money.
Reserved Style
When you sit down to have your haircut, Harriet will ask you a series of questions. Select the second answer, "Big nights!," in response to her first question. Select the second answer again, "Unfortunately...," in response to her second question. Select the second answer one more time, "I'm embarrassed!," in response to her final question. This will lead Harriet to decide to give you a "reserved style" which is what the game calls the spiky hairstyle.
Red Dye
The next step in the haircut process is to select the color of your hair. This is a much more straightforward process as you choose from a list, although Harriet only gives vague descriptions of the color, not the name of the color itself. First, select the "Warm Colors" category and then select the option for "Fiery!" hair color, which is the description for red. If completed correctly, your character will now be featuring a red spiky hairstyle.
Spiky Red Hair for a Girl Character
If your character is a girl, answering the same questions will give her red pigtails instead of red spiky hair, as each gender has its own set of hairstyles. However, girls can still receive a haircut meant for a boy if they have their hair styled enough times. You must receive each of the eight hairstyles and eight hair colors at least once to receive this option from Harriet. After she offers you the hairstyles of another gender, answer her questions the same way to receive a spiky, red hairstyle.
