How to Get Colored Tails in Final Fantasy 4

The colored Tails in "Final Fantasy IV" for the Nintendo DS can be traded with the Tail Trader for some of the strongest armor and weapons in the game, making them well worth pursuing. For example, you can trade Red Tails for the Onion Sword, one of Kain's strongest weapons. Tail trading is exclusive to the Nintendo DS version of the game and does not occur in the Super Nintendo or Game Boy Advance versions. You must repeatedly defeat a particular enemy until a tail is dropped to obtain a tail of each color. The possible colors are blue, black, red, yellow, green and pink.

Instructions

  Go to the "Passage of the Eidolons" to find the Blue Tail. The entrance to the passage is located on a small island in the southwestern corner of the "Underworld" map. You must find and defeat a Thunder Dragon. Beware its "Blitz" spell, which will lower your characters' HP by 10 percent with each hit. Continue finding and fighting Thunder Dragons until one drops the Blue Tail.

  Go to the area outside the "Sealed Cave" to find the Green Tail. The "Sealed Cave" is located in the southwestern corner of the "Underworld" map. Fight enemies in the area outside the cave entrance until you meet a Green Dragon. Green Dragons are immune to status effects, so stick with attack spells and physical attacks. You must continue to find and fight Green Dragons until one drops the Green Tail.

  Go to the "Lunar Subterrane" dungeon to find the Pink Tail. The dungeon is accessed from the "Crystal Palace." The Pink Tail is dropped by the Flan Princess enemy, which is only found in the L-shaped room in the southwestern corner of level B5 of the dungeon. The room stands out because it contains a chest with the only Red Fang in the dungeon. Fight enemies in this room until you meet a Flan Princess. Be sure to equip all party members with their strongest weapons -- attack spells will do no damage. Continue defeating Flan Princesses until one drops the Pink Tail.

  Go to the end of the "Lunar Subterrane" dungeon to find the Red Tail. Find and fight the Red Dragon enemy in the area near the exit to the dungeon. Use Ice spells and physical attacks while avoiding status effects to destroy the dragon. The Red Dragon is one of the most difficult enemies of the game, so be sure your characters are high level and equipped with the strongest weapons available. Continue defeating Red Dragons until one drops the Red Tail.

  Enter the "Sealed Cave" to find the Yellow Tail. Its entrance is near the southeastern corner of the "Underworld" map. You must find the Yellow Dragon enemy inside the cave. This is one of the rarest enemies in the game and it can take some time before you encounter one. Avoid using Lightning magic and status effects as the Yellow Dragon is immune to both. Yellow Dragons will drop Yellow Tails about 50 percent of the time once defeated because they are so rare. Continue defeating Yellow Dragons until you get a Yellow Tail.

  Return to the "Lunar Subterrane" dungeon to find the Black Tail. Look for the Armored Fiend. It is located in the later areas of the dungeon (level B5 and onward), but is not associated with any particular room. It is exceedingly rare, like the Yellow Tail. Use Lightning magic as much as possible while avoiding other types of attack spells to defeat Armored Fiends. Continue finding and defeating Armored Fiends until you get a Black Tail.
