"Pokemon: HeartGold" and "Pokemon: SoulSilver" were packaged with a pedometer called a "Pokewalker" that allowed you to take Pokemon out of the game and interact with them based on the steps you take in real life. The accessory allows you to take your Pokemon on different paths, find new Pokemon and get special items. However, when starting a new game, you will find it necessary to reset the Pokewalker so that it can be synced to your new game file.

Start "Pokemon HeartGold" or "SoulSilver."

Place the Pokewalker's infrared transceiver facing the game cartridges' transceiver. They should be approximately two inches apart.

Select "Connect to Pokewalker" from the main menu.

Press and hold the following buttons on your Nintendo DS simultaneously: Down, X, L. The Pokewalker will return to the original factory settings.
