DSi XL Cheats

The Nintendo DSi XL is a larger version of Nintendo's DSi handheld gaming console. There are no games exclusive to the Nintendo DSi XL. While there are no cheats specific only to the DSi XL, the system can take full advantage of codes designed for the original DSi or the Nintendo DS/DS Lite.
  1. Nintendo DS Games

    • Since the Nintendo DSi XL is compatible with all Nintendo DS titles, any codes for those games also will work on the DSi XL. The system is similar enough to the original DS that the button configuration and layout are exactly the same, so even codes that require a specific button sequence will work. As an example, the regular Nintendo DS game "New Super Mario Bros" lets you play as Mario's brother, Luigi, by holding L and R, while choosing a game file to play. Putting the cartridge in your DSi XL, you still can play as Luigi by using the previously mentioned cheat.

    Action Replay

    • The Action Replay is a cheating device that alters a game's code and internal memory to change various gaming effects. For example, one code may prevent your character's health bar from changing, effectively giving you infinite life. While the original Action Replay DS does not work with the DSi XL, the DSi Action Replay offers compatibility with the DS, DSi and DSi XL. With this device, either select codes from an available list already within the Action Replay, or look up codes online and enter them manually.

    Secret Controls

    • The DSi XL lets you control brightness and the volume when you turn on your DSi XL through button combinations that may not be apparent at first. To start your DSi XL muted or with low sound, hold the button for turning the volume down while you turn your DSi XL on. While you can adjust the screen brightness through the DSi XL's options menu, you also can do it while you're playing a game by pressing the Select button while you move the volume control up or down.

    Hints and Tips

    • While not specifically cheat codes, hints, tips and items you can unlock in specific games usually find their home among lists of cheat codes. Such advice doesn't help you cheat the game, but still proves valuable in providing information you may not be able to obtain from the game itself. For example, Gamespot.com's page for "New Super Mario Bros." cheats lists a couple of traditional cheats for the game, but also gives you tips on unlocking hidden worlds and features you can unlock only by beating the game.

    Walkthroughs and FAQs

    • You'll often find game walkthroughs and frequently asked questions listed with cheats. These resources prove useful if you're stuck in a game and can't find a cheat code or don't want to cheat to advance. They offer in-depth strategies and guides either covering an entire game or a certain aspect of a game. For example, GameFaqs.com features multiple full-game walkthroughs for "Pokemon Black," while still offering in-depth FAQs regarding in-game specifics like evolving Pokemon, using specific items and battling the game's bosses. Fellow players usually write these guides.
