How to Fix Your Updated DSi

Owners of the Nintendo DSi and the Nintendo DSi XL should regularly update their systems for increased system performance, changes to browsers or the ability to upload photos to social networking sites. Updates cannot prevent all of the problems you may encounter. The DSi camera may not work, the touch screen may grow dim or error codes may pop up, affecting your game play experience. If your troubleshooting measures go awry, a professional Nintendo repair service may be able to restore your system.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the Nintendo DSi camera from the main menu. Use the stylus to tap "Other" and "How to use the DSi camera" to get step-by-step instructions. If you can't see any of your saved photos it may due to renamed photos. Renaming photos on a Mac or PC can make them fail to display on your device. Photos also will not display on the DSi if they were not taken on the system.

    • 2

Read any error codes that pop up. If you are instructed to turn off the system, do so and then turn the system on. If this does not solve the problem, your game may be counterfeit. If the error is "System Memory has been Corrupted," the system needs to be repaired. If you get a "Restricted by Parental Controls" message, the parental controls must be changed to access that feature.

    • 3

Press the buttons. If they do not respond, turn off the DSi and remove any accessories, including games. Use a dry toothbrush to gently scrub around the buttons. Turn on the system again and test the buttons. The "power" button was designed to require more pressure to turn off or turn on the system. Some games do not use certain buttons.

    • 4

Check your screen during game play and while the system is not in use. If games do not go past the "Health and Safety" screen, or if there are visible cracks, scratches or lines in the screen, or if the screen is blurry or in a different color, your screen will need to be repaired.

    • 5

Recharge your system using an AC adapter when the power runs low. The red indicator light will glow during use when the power is low. If your system cannot hold a charge or holds it for less time, you may need to replace your battery.
