How to Get Past the Construction Workers in HeartGold

While the main story of "Pokemon HeartGold" is set in Johto, the adventure continues when the player gains access to Kanto. Players may remember Kanto from previous "Pokemon" games, but they will discover that some changes have occurred in "Pokemon HeartGold." Upon your first visit to Fuchsia City in this game, you will discover it is under construction. Workers are blocking the path that will allow you to travel south to Route 19. You will be able to pass them eventually, but not until much later in the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Head east out of Fuchsia City and take Routes 15 through 12 to get to Lavender Town. Heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center in the town, if necessary.

    • 2

Travel north out of Lavender Town on Route 10, go through the Rock Tunnel and travel west on Route 9. You will need a Pokemon that knows Flash; otherwise, you will not be able to see inside the tunnel. Route 9 will take you to Cerulean City, which will be out of power. You will need to return power to the city by traveling to the power plant and turning the power on.

    • 3

Travel back to Route 9 and head to the water. Use a Pokemon that knows Surf to travel south. You will find the power plant. Find the missing piece, which is located in the Cerulean Gym, and return it to the head engineer to restore power.

    • 4

Fly back to Cerulean City and travel north on Route 24 to find Misty, the Cerulean City gym leader. After you talk to her, she will go back with you to her gym for a battle.

    • 5

Defeat Misty. She will have four Water-type Pokemon, so an Electric-type Pokemon will be effective against them.

    • 6

Fly to Lavender City and go to the Radio Station to receive the EXPN Card.

    • 7

Fly to Vermilion City and travel west onto Route 11. You'll soon encounter a giant Snorlax, which will be blocking your way.

    • 8

Play the Poke Flute Channel on your radio to awaken the Snorlax. He will attack you, and you will have to kill or capture him.

    • 9

Head into the newly accessible Diglett's Cave. Make sure you have a Pokemon that can use Cut before traveling through the cave.

    • 10

Exit through the other side of the cave, and travel north onto Route 2, which will take you to Pewter City.

    • 11

Challenge Brock, the Gym Leader, to a battle. He will have five Rock-type Pokemon, which you can defeat by battling them with a Water-type Pokemon.

    • 12

Travel south down Route 2, Viridian City, Route 1 and Pallet Town. Rest your Pokemon as necessary.

    • 13

Select a Pokemon that knows the Surf ability, and surf south on Route 21, heading towards Cinnabar Island. When you arrive, you can rest your Pokemon and talk to a man who is resting there named Blue.

    • 14

Continue traveling west along Route 20 until you run into an island. The island will contain a gym.

    • 15

Battle Gym Leader Blaine. He trains three Fire-type Pokemon, so battle him with a strong Water-type Pokemon.

    • 16

Surf west and then north along Route 19. This will lead you to Fuchsia City along the path that was previously blocked by the construction workers. The workers will have finished their job, and you will now be able to travel along Route 19 whenever you want.
