How to Get the Magnet Train Pass in Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver

The Magnet Train runs between the Kanto and Johto regions in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It allows you to quickly get from Saffron City to Goldenrod City but it cannot be used until late into the game as a member of Team Rocket has stolen its power source. Once the Magnet Train is powered up and you have acquired the Pass you will be able to cross over into the next region with ease at any moment as the train runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Instructions

  Fly to the Power Plant in the Kanto region. Surf downwards and enter the large building. Speak to the manager in the centre of the room. He will explain that there is a missing part that is affecting the whole power supply. As you leave the Power Plant you will overhear a guard who mentions the whereabouts of a 'shady character' in Cerulean City.

  Head over to Cerulean City and go straight to the gym there. On entering you will bump into the offender, a Team Rocket Grunt. He'll make a swift getaway but you can find him again on the northern bridge where he will challenge you. Defeating him in battle should be fairly easy as he only has one Pokemon, a level 39 Golbat. Once the battle is over he will reveal his 'secret' to you, that the missing part is hidden in Cerulean Gym. Head to the gym and make your way to the top left of the swimming pool. Search around the life buoys and there you'll find the Machine Part.

  Return to the Power Plant and speak with the manager once more. He will attach the part immediately and get the power running once again. As thanks for your effort the manager will give you the TM57 which teaches Charge Beam to a Pokemon.

  Go to Saffron City and head north from the Pokemon Center. Along the second row of buildings is a pink house. Enter and head upstairs. Speak with the girl sat at the table. This is the Copycat and she will imitate your character as you talk to her. The Copycat challenges you to find her Poke Doll and offers a reward. Follow her directions to Vermilion City and talk to the man in the Pokemon Fan Club building. He will offer you the Copycat's Poke Doll, named as Lost Item in your backpack, and ask you to deliver it to its owner.

  Give the Lost Item to the Copycat in Saffron City. As promised she will give you your reward, the Magnet Train Pass. The Copycat will explain how the Pass was given to her after the train company tore down her old house in order to make way for the Magnet Train. As a consequence she was given the Magnet Train Pass for unlimited travel between Saffron City and Goldenrod. Now that you have the Pass you can make use of the Magnet Train at any time.
