How to Catch Raikou Without a Master Ball on Pokemon HeartGold

"Pokemon" games include many legendary creatures that appear very rarely throughout them. "Pokemon HeartGold" features two such legendaries, Entei and Raikou, which represent the elements of fire and lightning. Raikou appears every once in a while on certain paths in the game. The legendary Pokemon attacks quickly and runs if not afflicted with paralysis. Players wishing to capture Raikou without a Master Ball must use specific techniques to overcome the Pokemon.

Instructions

  Open your Pokedex from the main menu. The Pokedex displays useful information about the game, including the current location of Raikou.

  Travel to the highlighted route. Raikou may appear anywhere along this route at any time of day.

  Battle Raikou with your Ground-type Pokemon. An Electric-type Pokemon, such as Raikou, deals very little damage to Ground-type monsters, and it receives additional damage from them.

  Select Ground-type special abilities to inflict the Bind, Wrap or Paralyze effects on Raikou. The Electric-type Pokemon's health should quickly enter the bottom third "red zone," dramatically increasing its capture rate.

  Select the Fast Ball Poke Ball item. A Fast Ball multiplies the chance of capturing any Pokemon with a speed of 100 or greater by four.

  Repeat the process until Raikou fails to escape the Fast Ball.
