How to Take Apart a DSi

The Nintendo DSi was first released in the United States in 2009 as an upgrade to the DS Lite. It has dual screens; the bottom one is touch activated. It features two digital cameras -- one on the inside facing the player, and the other on the outside. Pictures, along with downloads and audio files, can be saved on SD cards. The DSi also has a microphone and audio filters to record and edit audio. It also connects to the Internet using Wi-Fi. To see all the parts involved in making a DSi operate, you have to take it apart.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws from the battery cover, located on back bottom half of DSi, with a Phillips head screwdriver. Dislodge battery with your fingernail.

    • 2

Remove the two plugs on either side of the game card slot.

    • 3

Take out the screws under the plugs, in the battery compartment and the other three that are visible.

    • 4

Open the unit carefully so that you do not damage the orange connector that holds the two halves together.

    • 5

Disengage the three connectors to the battery PCB. Two of the connectors are linked to the PCB with thin orange strips, and one is connected with red and black wires. Take out five screws on the PCB.

    • 6

Flip the unit over and lift the Wi-Fi board (the plain black rectangle) off the unit. Remove the board's connector wire.

    • 7

Remove the main board. Take out four screws. Disengage six connectors; five are on the current side while one is on the other.

    • 8

Take off the four plastic covers on the top half of screen display section and then remove the screws.

    • 9

Take off the upper half of the outside case, and then remove the camera piece, which looks like a deformed letter "T."

    • 10

Remove eight screws to take off the battery housing, the stylus container and the expansion slot.
