How Can I Get a Chocobo in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift?

Unlocking the Chocobo Knight Job

  Acquire the "Popocho's Chocobos" escort mission. This is a rank 27 escort mission that requires a skill of 13 teamwork and 13 negotiation to accept. In this mission, you must travel to the Aldanna Range to protect three different groups of chocobos from various enemies. You are not allowed to use attacks that do more than 50 damage in this quest.

  Defeat all the monsters attacking the first chocobo. The first fight tasks you with protecting a lone yellow chocobo against a wolf, two werewolves and a zaghnal. The enemies are weak, and the chocobo can attack and heal itself, so just monitor the strength of your attacks to ensure that you don't do more than 50 damage.

  Kill the monsters trying to attack the second group of chocobos. The second fight makes you protect two green chocobos from a group of ice flans and wendigos. Use fire spells and fire elemental attacks to defeat the flans. Fire spells and elemental attacks also work on the wendigos, but you will also need to pound them with physical attacks. The two chocobos can cast protect/shell on your party in addition to curing themselves.

  Protect the final two chocobos and Popocho from a zahak, two ice drakes and a ghost. Use fire spells and attacks to defeat the ice drakes, and use either a phoenix down or cure spell to defeat the ghost. Use a mix of magic and physical attacks to down the zahak, keeping an eye on your party's health and the health of Popocho and the chocobos.

  Talk to Popocho after the final fight. He will be so pleased that you helped him return your chocobo that he will teach you the Chocobo Knight job. Only Moogles who have mastered two Animist A-abilities can become Chocobo Knights.

Getting a Chocobo

  Get into a battle with a chocobo. You encounter chocobos in many of the game's missions and side quests.

  Attack the chocobo to lower its hit points. Do not kill the chocobo.

  Position your Chocobo Knight next to the chocobo and use the "Mount" command. The Chocobo Knight will mount the chocobo, and it will become owned by you.
