Take the boat from Canalave City to reach Iron Island. Walk up the stairs, past the house, and enter the cave. Descend the stairs on the right. Run to the right and go up the small set of stairs. Walk to the right and turn south to reach the elevator. Go down the stairs on the left side. Talk to Riley to get him to join your party.
Head south until you see two green-haired trainers. Defeat them and keep walking down. Go up the flight of stairs and fight the two Galactic Grunts. Receive the Pokemon egg from Riley. Take the elevator to the next room, take a left and get on the second elevator to leave the cave.
Walk around the game world. It takes over 6,000 steps to hatch the egg, so walk in circles or complete other missions until it hatches. If you want to speed up the process, put a Pokemon with the Magma Armor ability in your party to cut the step requirement in half. Riolu hatches from the egg.
Raise Riolu's happiness. Keep Riolu in your party and walk around, as every 256 steps raises his happiness. Travel to Veilstone City, located northeast of Solaceon Town. Find the Massage Lady beside the Veilstone gym in the north side of the city. Get your Riolu a massage to raise its happiness. Travel to Eterna City Pokemon Center to get the Happiness Checker, which tells you the level of happiness of a Pokemon. Repeat the massages until the checker says Riolu has two hearts of happiness.
Fight enemies to gain Riolu experience and raise his level. Riolu will not evolve in the night, so raise his level when the sun is out. If his happiness is full and he levels in the day, he will evolve into Lucario.
