How to Get a Chimchar in Pokemon Diamond

Chimchar is a Fire-type starter Pokemon that was introduced in the fourth generation "Diamond," "Pearl" and "Platinum" games for the Nintendo DS. It evolves into Monferno at level 14, gaining a Fighting type, and into Infernape at level 36. Chimchar's Infernape form has the highest Speed stat of all Fire-type Pokemon, with a base value of 104. This, in addition to Infernape's high Attack and Special Attack stats and a large move pool, makes it a fearsome sweeper in competitive battles. You can get a Chimchar at the beginning of the "Pokemon Diamond" game.

     Begin a new "Pokemon Diamond" game by selecting the "New Game" option from the main menu.

     Head north from Twinleaf Town onto Route 201. Follow your rival west to reach Lake Verity.

     Wait for Professor Rowan and his assistant to leave. A pair of Starly will attack. Choose the Poke Ball containing Chimchar from the briefcase on the ground.

     Defeat the Starly with Chimchar's "Scratch" attack and Chimchar will remain yours.
