How to Draw a Flipnote

Flipnote Studio is a game that is available for the Nintendo DSi gaming system. This animation studio game allows users to create small animations called "Flipnotes" using pictures from the DS camera or using hand-drawn illustrations. Like a flipbook animation, Flipnote combines several frames to create one fluid animation. Create as many frames as you want to make your own custom animation. When your masterpiece is complete, use your DS to share your animation with family and friends.

Instructions

  Launch Flipnote Studio. Select the "Create Flipnote" button using the tip of your stylus.

  Draw the first frame of your animation using your stylus. When drawing an animation for the first time, draw a simple figure. The aim of flipbook animation is to draw several frames of the same image that change very slightly each time---this method will create a fluid animation.

  Press the "Right" button on your DS to move to the next frame when you are finished the first. Continue drawing frames until you are satisfied with each one.

  Change your drawing tools by selecting the "Tools" page on the menu screen. Access the menu screen by pressing the "Up" button on the control pad. In the tools section, you can choose a pencil tool, an eraser if you make any mistakes or a thicker brush tool. Press the "Back" button to return to your last frame.

  Preview your animation by pressing the "Down" button on the control pad. If you are satisfied with your animation, press the "Save" button to save your work. If not, press the "Left" button on your control pad to move back through the frames and make any necessary changes.
