How to Format a DSi SD Card

Nintendo's DSi handheld gaming console is outfitted with a number of features that distinguish it from its predecessors, the DS and the DS Lite. Among those features is the ability to expand the system's storage capacity using SD memory cards. Using these cards, users can also play AAC audio from their console, and transfer pictures taken using the DSi's dual cameras to their computer. While the memory remains mostly unchanged, minor formatting is required to ensure a proper interface between the camera application and the card itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the SD card to your computer using a memory card slot or USB adapter.

    • 2

Navigate through the file system using Explorer (Windows) or Picker (Mac) and clear the data of any pre-existing data.

    • 3

Create a folder in the SD card folder and name it "Music," if you want to add music.

    • 4

Add any desired music files or album folders to the "Music" folder.

    • 5

Disconnect the SD card from the computer and insert it into the SD slot on your DSi.

    • 6

Start up the DSi and select the "DSi Camera" application from the DSi's menu. First-time launches of this application will trigger a tutorial on how to use the program.

    • 7

Select "SD Card" from the upper-right corner of the "Camera" menu after the tutorial. The DSi will begin formatting your SD card to store DSi photo data. This process will not affect the previously created "Music" folder.
