How to Catch Lugia in Pokemon SoulSilver Easily

Serving as the mascot of "Pokemon SoulSilver," the Flying- and Psychic-type Pokemon Lugia lives deep within the Whirl Islands. Appearing at level 45, this legendary Pokemon challenges trainers with its strength and powerful moves. Legendaries are the most difficult Pokemon to capture, but planning and preparation make catching Lugia much easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your team for the upcoming battle. Teach a Pokemon a sleep-inducing move like Hypnosis, Yawn, Sing or Sleep Powder. Hypno, Gengar, Wigglytuff and Butterfree all learn sleep-inducing moves as they gain levels. Teach your Pokemon any moderately-powerful attack move, but avoid Dark, Rock, Ice or Electric-type moves, as these are extremely effective against Lugia.

    • 2

Enter the northeastern-most island in the Whirl Islands, and head up and to the right. Take the ladder down to the second floor, and head down and to your left until you reach a branch in the path. Head down, and climb down the next ladder. Head down again, and talk to the man at the top of the ramp to make him step aside. Follow the ramp downward and enter the cave entrance at the bottom to witness a short scene with the Kimono Girls before challenging Lugia.

    • 3

Save immediately before battling Lugia so that you can retry the battle if necessary.

    • 4

Press "A" when facing Lugia to enter battle with the legendary Pokemon.

    • 5

Attack Lugia with a sleep-inducing move as soon as possible. If Lugia does not fall asleep immediately, try again, healing your Pokemon with Potions or other healing items if necessary. Sleeping Pokemon cannot attack and are easier to catch.

    • 6

Chip away at Lugia's health with your attacks. Reduce its health until its HP bar is in the red, but avoid knocking Lugia out.

    • 7

Put Lugia back to sleep with your sleep-inducing attack if it wakes up during the battle.

    • 8

Throw a Dusk Ball at Lugia while it is still asleep. The Dusk Ball has three times the capture rate of a standard Pokeball when used in caves or at night, and the Whirl Islands count as a cave.

    • 9

Continue throwing Dusk Balls if the first one does not work, and repeat as necessary. Put Lugia back to sleep again if it wakes up, and keep your Pokemon healed from its attacks.
