How to Fill Your Pokédex in Pokémon Diamond

Ever since the first generation of "Pokemon," filling the Pokedex has been the ultimate challenge for players. Back then, there were only 150 Pokemon to capture. In the fourth generation of "Pokemon" games, there are 493 Pokemon, with plenty of legendary Pokemon to hunt down and new evolutions for old favorites. Just seeing all 493 Pokemon in "Pokemon Diamond" is a feat. Catching them all takes hours more work, dedication and trading.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "New Game" from the title screen of "Pokemon Diamond," then press "A."

    • 2

Begin your Pokemon adventure by leaving your house and heading out of the first town and into the tall grass. Talk to the professor when he stops you and return to his lab to obtain your first Pokemon and the Pokedex.

    • 3

Progress through the game, battling every trainer that you see.

    • 4

Catch wild Pokemon by lowering their HP into the red, then throwing a Poke Ball at them. As you progress in the game, more types of Poke Balls with different capture rates become available. Choose the Poke Ball best suited for the situation. For example, Dusk Balls are more effective at night, while Net Balls work better on bug- and water-type Pokemon.

    • 5

Save before battling legendary Pokemon, such as Dialga at the Spear Pillar on top of Mount Coronet. To capture legendaries, lower their health as much as you can, then use a move such as Hypnosis or Yawn to put them to sleep. Stock up on Poke Balls beforehand, and restart the game if you either run out of Poke Balls or accidentally knock out the legendary you're battling.

    • 6

Beat the Elite Four and Pokemon League Champion to obtain the National Pokedex, which lets you find Pokemon from other generations in the wild.

    • 7

Trade with a friend who owns "Pokemon Pearl" to obtain that version's exclusive Pokemon. You will need to trade for Slowpoke, Slowbro and Slowking, Pinsir, Misdreavus and Mismagius, Houndor and Houndoom, Stantler, Spheal, Sealeo, Walrein, Bagon, Shelgon and Salamence, Glameow and Purugly, as well as Sheildon and Bastiodon. Some of these are evolved forms, so you may be able to get away with trading for their unevolved version and evolving them yourself. The legendary Pokemon Palkia also is exclusive to "Pokemon Pearl."

    • 8

Visit the Valley Windworks on a Friday to see and capture Drifloon.

    • 9

Head to Hearthome City and visit the house next to the Pokemon Center to talk to Bebe, who will give you an Eevee. Breed Eevee with a Ditto at the Pokemon Daycare to obtain more Eevee eggs so you can obtain all of Eevee's evolutions.

    • 10

Walk or fly to Sandgem Town and visit your rival's sister after you've obtained the National Pokedex. She will update you on what Pokemon are swarming and where. Swarming Pokemon change daily and are otherwise unobtainable except through trades.
