How to Focus on Pokemon's Speed & Attack When They Level Up

Players catch and train Pokemon to make them stronger in the "Pokemon" video game series. Your Pokemon adds EV points to its statistics when it wins a battle; once it has gained enough EV points, it will level up. You can focus on improving certain aspects of your Pokemon by choosing which wild Pokemon to battle. If you battle fast or high-attack Pokemon, your own Pokemon will improve in those areas. You also can use hold items and vitamins to strengthen your Pokemon in these areas.

Instructions

    • 1

Fight Pokemon with high speed stats. Find an area where you encounter a large number of fast Pokemon. You can tell that a Pokemon is fast when it has the first attack in a battle -- unless your Pokemon is particularly slow. The best way to tell how fast a Pokemon is is to catch it and look at its statistics. Examples of fast Pokemon are Pidgey, Ponyta, Blitzle and Cinccino. Run from any Pokemon that do not fit the description to avoid wasting your EV points.

Battle Pokemon with high attack stats. Legendary Pokemon typically have the highest attack stats, which can make focusing on attack training difficult. There are plenty of other strong Pokemon you can battle to improve your attack stat. Examples of high-attack Pokemon are Dragonite, Machamp, Haxorus and Darmanitan.

Give your Pokemon items to hold. In the fourth- and fifth-generation "Pokemon" games, certain items will give them extra points toward a stat. In fourth-generation games, the Power Bracer increases the attack stat of your Pokemon, while the Power Anklet improves speed. In fifth-generation games, the Muscle Wing improves attack and the Swift Wing improves speed.

Feed your Pokemon vitamins. Protein improves Pokemon's attack stat, and Carbos improves their speed stat. You can feed each Pokemon in your party a maximum of 10 of each vitamin. Your Pokemon will gain five stat points in an area for every two vitamins you feed them.
