How to Shutdown a Frozen DSi XL

The DSi XL, Nintendo's jumbo-sized version of the company's handheld gaming device, is not immune to technical glitches. Like any other electronic device, your DSi XL can freeze up, rendering the "Power" button useless. This can occur for a number of reasons, such as a software malfunction or normal wear and tear on the hardware. Nintendo includes two options for shutting down a frozen device: a normal reset or battery removal.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold down the "Power" button for at least four seconds. Proceed to Step 2 if the DSi XL does not reset.

    • 2

View the DSi XL's back side and locate the battery compartment positioned on the left side.

    • 3

Remove the battery cover's two screws with the Phillips-head screw driver and pull off the cover.

    • 4

Pull the battery pack out of the DSi XL. Without power, the screen shuts off.

    • 5

      Reinstall the battery and cover.

    • 6

Press the "Power" button to turn the unit back on.
