How to Get the Smeargle in Pokemon FireRed & Pokemon LeafGreen

Smeargle, a normal-type Pokemon known to use its tail like a paintbrush to indicate its territory, dwells in only one or two locations in every "Pokemon" game. As it levels up, it learns the ability "Sketch," which enables it to learn the last attack used by a foe. Smeargle does not involve into any other Pokemon. In "FireRed" and "LeafGreen," players will also have the opportunity to capture Pokemon, such as Shuckle, Teddiursa and Mareep in the location where Smeargle is found.

Instructions

  Travel to the Altering Cave, which is located in the Sevii Islands of the Kanto region. It is located north of Outcast Island.

  Wander about the Altering Cave to enter into random encounters. If the encounter is not with a Smeargle, select the "Run" option to leave the battle. If that is not possible, defeat the enemy and continue to wander about Altering Cave.

  Attack Smeargle when you find it in a random encounter. Select a Pokemon close to Smeargle's level to avoid knocking it out in one attack. As a normal-type Pokemon, Smeargle is weak against fighting-type Pokemon. It is also immune to ghost-type Pokemon. Do not use fighting-type or ghost-type Pokemon against Smeargle.

  Use a Pokeball on Smeargle when it is weakened. If the Pokeball breaks, attack Smeargle to weaken it more. Use another Pokeball to capture it. If Smeargle is knocked out during battle, wander around to enter into a random encounter with another Smeargle.

  Take Smeargle to a Pokemon Center for healing. Save your game.
