How to Disable Encore in Pokemon

In the "Pokemon" series, a Pokemon's use of the ability "Encore" in battle forces its opponent to repeat its last attack two to six more times in a row in the battle. The move can be particularly useful as a defense strategy if the foe's last move was something like "Growth," which inflicts no damage. While the move can be disabled temporarily during battle, players can permanently remove it from a Pokemon's ability roster.

Instructions

    • 1

Level up the Pokemon. As Pokemon level up, they frequently learn new abilities. If the Pokemon already has four abilities in its current attack roster, the player will be asked to delete a previous move to make room for the new move. Select "Yes" to delete an old ability. Select "Encore" to permanently remove it from your Pokemon's ability list.

    • 2

Teach the Pokemon an HM or TM. These can be found in dungeons or while wandering through Routes or cities. Some can also be purchased in places like the Celadon Department Store in Celadon City, in the Kanto region.

    • 3

Acquire an HM or TM and select it from your "Items" list. When asked if you would like to teach it to a Pokemon in your party, select "Yes." Select a Pokemon that knows "Encore" and has a total of four moves. The player will be asked to delete a move so that the Pokemon can learn the HM or TM ability. Select "Yes" and click on "Encore" to permanently delete it.

    • 4

Use the move "Disable" in battle against a Pokemon that knows "Encore." Disable may not work every time, or it may disable a move other than "Encore." Continue to use "Disable" until you are informed that "Encore" has been disabled. Opponents can also disable your Pokemon's "Encore" ability using the same method. Encore will only be disabled during that specific battle. After the battle ends, moves are no longer disabled.
