How to Hook Your DS Up to Wi-Fi in Pokemon SoulSilver

The Nintendo Wi-Fi connection is the service connecting DS consoles around the world for online play. "Pokemon SoulSilver" makes good use of these tools with various in-game features. "SoulSilver" and Game Freak have integrated the world of Pokemon with players everywhere.

Instructions

    • 1
Is your wireless network ready for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?

Ensure that your Wi-Fi access point is ready and the wireless router is turned on. Select a security standard (e.g., WEP or WPA) for your router and type in the key. Nintendo DS and DS Lite are only compatible with WEP security settings; subsequent models (DSi, DSi XL, and 3DS) work with both WEP and WPA standards. Public networks require no setup.

Enter the Wi-FI key in your Nintendo DS settings menu. Click the "Wi-Fi Connection" button on the Nintendo DS, accessing your system's wireless settings. Click "Access Point 1" to create a new connection, selecting the proper Wi-Fi network from the list of networks. Enter the WEP/WPA code in the entry field that appears. Finalize and confirm the key code, restart your DS and load "SoulSilver."

Access the Pokemon Wi-Fi area. The Wi-Fi area in all Pokemon games is in the Pokemon Center buildings scattered across the various regions. Pokemon Centers in "SoulSilver" have their Wi-Fi Clubs in the basement. The Wi-Fi Club cannot be accessed until the introductory plot has passed and the player is set loose in the Johto region. The first Pokemon Center and Poke Mart in Johto is in Cherrygrove City.

Connect with Pokemon through Wi-Fi. Once you get to the Pokemon Center, "SoulSilver" will introduce you to the game's Wi-Fi capabilities. Finish by giving "SoulSilver" the requested access information. You can see the Wi-Fi Plaza in the lower level of the Pokemon Center where players interact from around the world, although you're only allowed to be there for a specific amount of time each day. The Wi-Fi Club is down the escalator to your right, where you can register friends on your Pal Pad for battling, trading and communication.
