How to Beat Red in SoulSilver

At the end of "SoulSilver," you battled through wild Pokemon, taken on Team Rocket, beaten every gym leader and walked across the entire continent, all in preparation for the final battle. Red is the final boss in "Pokemon SoulSilver." This one is for all the marbles, folks; but don't think that Red is going to go easy on you just because you're the hero. His Pokemon are all high-level, and he knows how to use every one of them.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy as many max potions and revives as you can before entering this fight, and make sure you have leveled all of your Pokemon to at least level 65, preferably higher. Red's Pokemon are all around level 85, and will decimate your team if they are not strong enough.

    • 2

Bring Jolteon or Ampharos along in your team. Half of Red's Pokemon are vulnerable to electric-type attacks. Mix and match the rest of your team so that it is a good balance of power and types.

    • 3

Send out a Pokemon with the "Earthquake" skill to combat Red's Pikachu. The enemy Pokemon is holding a Light Ball which increases its defense and attack power, so make sure your Pokemon is prepared for a beating. Pikachu is weak against Ground-type attacks, so hit it with Earthquake a few times to take the electric mouse out.

    • 4

Bring out a Fighting type against Lapras, Red's second Pokemon. Lapras is weak against Fighting, Rock, Grass and Electric attacks, so use those against it as much as possible. Keep your Pokemon above 150hp if possible, as Lapras's "Brine" attack does close to 130 damage once its health drops below half. Continue pounding it with the recommended attacks until it goes under.

    • 5

Send in a Pokemon with "Brick Break" for the Snorlax that Red sends out next. Snorlax is weak against Fighting-type attacks, but gains extra resistance to fire and ice attacks thanks to its "Thick Fat" modifier. Snorlax also has a powerful "Giga Impact" move that will do at least 190 points of damage if it hits, so make sure your Pokemon is kept around 200 hp as much as possible. Snorlax is guaranteed to miss after it does Giga Impact, though, so pour on the attacks afterwards.

    • 6

Send in a Pokemon that is strong vs. Grass attacks but possesses either Flying, Psychic, Fire or Ice attacks. Red will send out Venusaur as his fourth Pokemon, and it has a weakness to all the mentioned attacks. Venusaur's "Frenzy" move is exactly the same as "Giga Impact," but is a Grass-type attack. Keep your Pokemon's HP up as you fight, and hammer it with powerful attacks until it goes down.

    • 7

Use Surf or Thunder/Thunderbolt moves against Red's Charizard -- his fifth Pokemon. Charizard has a variety of powerful attacks, including a fire-based "Giga Hit" move, and is among Red's strongest Pokemon. You may lose a Pokemon to Charizard, as all his moves do at least 75 damage and often add stat penalties such as "Flinch" or "Burn" to your Pokemon. Keep pounding away at Charizard with Electric, Rock or Water moves, healing as needed, until the overgrown lizard drops.

    • 8

Bring out your most powerful Electric-type Pokemon to battle against Blastoise, Red's final Pokemon. As with the two Pokemon before it, Blastoise has a variety of powerful attacks, as well as a water-based Giga Hit. Just keep attacking with your most powerful Electric attacks and soon it will drop just as the others did.
