How to Kill Metal Slimes in DQ9

"Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies" brings players back to the familiar Dragon Quest realms to battle monsters and evils spreading across those lands. The Nintendo DS video game offers a host of special abilities and monsters reaching back more than 20 years to the original Dragon Quest games. One of the most dangerous creatures from the original game, the Metal Slime, reappears and requires very specific skills and special abilities to defeat.

Critical Rate Up ability
Multithrust spear ability
Metal Slash sword ability

  Use the Critical Rate Up ability at the start of the battle. Critical Rate Up greatly increases the chance that your character will perform a critical strike with any attack. Critical strikes ignore armor and kill Metal Slimes in a single hit. Almost all player characters may use Critical Rate Up.

  Attack with the Multithrust spear ability. Metal Slimes typically possess between three and five hit points. Their armor reduces most noncritical attacks to one hit point per attack. Multithrust overcomes this by launching three to four simultaneous attacks against the slime.

  Choose the Metal Slash sword ability. Metal Slash provides bonus damage against Metal Slimes. Each Metal Slash attack has a high chance to double or triple damage to the creature.

  Repeat this process until the Metal Slime dies. Although they possess few hit points, their high armor and evasion rates make Metal Slimes one of the most difficult creatures in the game.
