What Do the Helix and the Dome Fossils Do?

The Helix and Dome fossils first appeared in "Pokemon: Red," "Blue," "Green" and "Yellow" after an encounter with the evil Team Rocket. The fossils appeared again in "FireRed," "LeafGreen," "HeartGold," "SoulSilver," "White" and "Black." Players can only choose one of these fossils, forgoing the other fossils. Players can acquire the Pokemon from the other fossils through trading with other players.
  1. Acquiring a Fossil in "Red," "Blue," "Yellow," "FireRed" and "LeafGreen"

    • Travel to Mt. Moon, located in the Kanto region. Mt. Moon is along Route 4. Enter it and work your way through. You will encounter several ground and flying-type Pokemon, such as Sandshrew and Zubat. Enter into battle against trainers for experience points. Eventually, the player will come to the final trainer and a set of two fossils. This trainer may be a member of Team Rocket or a "Super Nerd," depending on the game. Face and defeat the trainer. Approach and select one of the two fossils. Confirm your choice by selecting "Yes" or "No."

Acquiring a Fossil in "Black," "White," "HeartGold" and "SoulSilver"

    • Go to the Johto Region in "SoulSilver" and "HeartGold." Travel to the Ruins of Alph, located north of Union Cave and west of Route 32. Use a Pokemon that has the "Rock Smash" ability to destroy rocks in the Ruins of Alph. Players may find either the Dome or the Helix fossil through this process. In "Black" and "White," travel to Twist Mountain in the Unova region, west of Icirrus City. Defeating trainers can earn you a gift of the Helix or Dome fossils in this area.

    The Helix Fossil -- Omanyte

    • Take the Helix fossil to the Cinnabar Museum in "Red," "Yellow," "Blue," "LeafGreen" or "FireRed." The fossil is brought back to life as the Pokemon Omanyte. Take the fossil to the Pewter City Museum in "HeartGold" or "SoulSilver." The Helix fossil must be taken to the Oreburgh City Museum in "Diamond," "Pearl" and "Platinum." Omanyte ranges between levels 5 and 30, depending on the "Pokemon" game. A water-type Pokemon, Omanyte boasts better defense capabilities than the Pokemon resulting from the Dome fossil, Kabuto.

    The Dome Fossil -- Kabuto

    • Take the Dome Fossil to the Cinnabar Museum for the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance Pokemon games. Take the fossil to the Oreburgh City Museum in "Diamond," "Pearl" and "Platinum," and to the Pewter City Museum in "HeartGold" and "SoulSilver." Kabuto's attack and critical attack abilities are greater than those of the Pokemon that appear from the Helix fossil, Omanyte.
