The Masuda method in Pokemon increases the chances of hatching a shiny Pokemon. The basic principle behind the Masuda method is to breed two Pokemon from different countries. Introduced in the fourth-generation of Pokemon games, the nationality of each Pokemon you obtain is recorded. With the introduction of the global trading network, you can trade Pokemon with people from all over the world. Additionally, you can also trade in-person with someone who has an international copy of the game. To breed a shiny Charmander, for example, you will need a female Charmander and a compatible Pokemon from a different country to breed with it.

Travel to the Daycare Center and talk to the owner.

Deposit both Pokemon into the Daycare Center. The female Pokemon has to be a Charmander and the male Pokemon can be any of the Pokemon from the Dragon egg group. Alternatively, you can use a Ditto. Make sure one of the two Pokemon is from a different country.

Walk around until the owner calls you back. He will give you an egg.

Walk 5,120 steps to hatch the egg. There is a one in 2,048 chance of the Charmander being shiny.
