Play the game until you have defeated the Elite Four and got the National Dex. The National Dex is a gift you receive from Professor Oak after you have seen all the Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex.
Follow Route 214 (the one near Veilstone City), then take the path on the right that leads to Sendoff Spring.
Use Rock Climb (The HM found on Route 217) to get up the mountain and enter the cave. Stand in front of the wall and press "A" to read the inscription that explains how Turnback Cave works.
Explore Turnback Cave by entering any doorway. The rooms are all randomized so there is no other way to get through this cave than luck. The goal is to find the three pillar rooms. If you enter a room with a pillar in it, stand in front of the pillar and press "A." The numbers shown indicate the amount of pillars you have found and the amount of rooms you have entered. You must find the third pillar efore entering 30 rooms or you will be returned to the start of the cave and have to do everything again. Use Rock Smash (The HM given to you by the hiker in Oreburgh Gate) to get past any rocks that block your way.
Enter any room once you have found the third pillar to encounter Giratina. Save your game then walk up to the legendary Pokemon and press "A" to start the battle.
Weaken Giratina with ghost or dragon type attacks until its health is flashing red. Be careful not to kill it or you won't be able to catch it. Use a status-attack, such as sleep or paralyze, on it to further increase your chances of a successful capture.
Throw an Ultra or Dark ball at Giratina, once you have lowered its health, to capture it. It will take a few tries, but eventually you will catch Giratina. If you accidentally kill it during battle, reload your savegame and try again.
