Pen Size
Change your pen size to improve the accuracy and detail of your drawings. The smaller the pen, the finer the line. Fine lines lead to greater detail and accuracy while thick lines take up space quickly, making them appropriate for backgrounds and thick objects. Change the size of the pen by tapping the square in the bottom-right corner of the "Pen" box. You can also turn the pen into a brush or eraser using this tool.
Camera Photos
Import photos you took with your DSi camera by selecting the photo from the Nintendo DSi Camera Album. To create unique photo effects, adjust contrast and saturation. Create a black and white, noir-style image by turning the contrast to its maximum and turning the saturation to its minimum. Create a colorful, pop-style image by turning the saturation to the maximum. The higher the saturation, the brighter the colors of the image. The higher the contrast, the sharper the highlights and lowlights.
Drawing
Draw perfectly straight lines by holding the "L" button as you move the stylus. Draw perfectly-shaped squares by holding both the "Start" and "Select" buttons as you draw a square.
Open the advanced drawing tools by pressing the "A" button then tapping "Advanced Tools." Use the select tool to move a portion of your drawing. Hold either of the shoulder buttons as your draw over your original drawing. Draw over the portion of the drawing you wish to move. For example, if you wish to move the face of character, draw a circle around his face. Press the "Y" button and drag the selected area to the appropriate place.
Sound
"Flipnote Studio" provides the option of recording sound or using pre-recorded sounds. To record a sound, tap the "Mic" icon. Tap the "Record" button and hold the internal microphone to the source of the sound. For the highest quality sound, place the microphone several inches away from the source of the sound. Limit background noise by closing doors and windows and turning off other electronic devices.
Layer two sounds on top of each other using the "Advanced Recording" option. Open this function by holding the "L" button as you tap the icon of a half-filled circle. Press the button on the top right to add a new sound layer. Press the icon of the flag to insert a new sound. Use this function to play two sounds at once or to play two sounds one after another.
Options
Open the "Settings" menu by clicking on the icon of the wrench. Add a user name, Flipnote ID user name and a birthday, if desired. Set the "Pages to Lightbox" option. This changes the number of pages that you can see when you create an animation. Set the "Stylus Hand" to either right or left, depending on which hand you use to create drawings.
