How to Get the HM Rock Smash in LeafGreen

In "Pokemon LeafGreen," Hidden Machines (or HMs) teach your Pokemon moves that allow you to travel through the region of Kanto more easily. One of these is HM06, also called Rock Smash, which teaches your Pokemon how to destroy boulders that are in your way. This useful move is trickier than others to obtain, but it is well worth the effort.

Instructions

  Defeat Blain in the Cinnabar Gym and obtain his badge. Leave the Gym. Bill, the developer of the Pokemon Storage System, will greet you outside and offer you a Tri-Pass. With the Tri-Pass, you will be able to travel to Kanto's many islands.

  Travel to One Island with Bill, and run to the eastern shore. Surf across the water until you reach land. Head north on the road you will find here. You will encounter and battle a number of trainers and wild Pokemon along the way. The trainers all have Pokemon between levels 34 and 38.

  Continue going north until you reach more water. You will see two martial artists and an entrance to a cave near them. Go inside the cave, and you'll find a hot springs called the Ember Spa. Find the stairs to your right. Go up the stairs and look for an old man between two pools.

  Talk to the old man; he will tell you how he built the hot springs himself using Rock Smash. He will then pass the HM on to you, and you will be able to teach your Pokemon how to use Rock Smash. Once it's yours, it will be in your bag in the Key Items pocket inside the TM Case.
