How to Get Fossils in Pokemon SoulSilver

In "Pokemon SoulSilver," players can obtain fossils by using the HM Rock Smash on breakable rocks found throughout the game. There is a random chance that a broken rock will reveal a fossil. "Pokemon SoulSilver" features two different types of fossils: the Root Fossil and the Dome Fossil. By taking the fossils to the museum in Pewter City, players can revive the Root Fossil into the Pokemon Kabutops, and they can revive the Root Fossil into the Pokemon Lileep.

  Enter Violet City and head northwest until you reach a gatehouse.

  Pass through the gatehouse to enter Route 36.

  Talk to the large man standing near the entrance to the gatehouse by a tree. He will give you the HM Rock Smash.

  Travel to Cerulean Cave by heading north from Cerulean City until you reach a body of water. Then use the HM Surf to follow the body of water south until you see the cave. You can find breakable rocks throughout the game, but they are plentiful in Cerulean Cave.

  Enter Cerulean Cave and equip the HM Rock Smash to one of your Rock-type Pokemon.

  Press the "A" button when you are next to a rock. You will be given an option to break the rock using Rock Smash. Select "Yes." There is a random chance you will obtain a fossil within the rock.

  Continue breaking rocks until you find the Dome and Root fossils.
