Word Games for the DSi

The Nintendo DSi is a portable game system that has two gaming screens. The word games offered on the DSi are challenging and addictive for many players, according to gaming website IGN. The games range from unscrambling words, finding missing letters, hangman and matching words to definitions.
  1. "Bookworm"

    • Bookworm is a word search game that is available on many different platforms, such as the PC and on Nintendo's DS consoles. During game play, users are to connect letters on the puzzle to create words. The tiles on the game board progress down the board. Players must use a red tile before it reaches the bottom of the game board and falls off the screen. The game is available for free download at Nintendo's DSi Center.

    "My Word Coach"

    • "My Word Coach" is similar to Nintendo's Brain Game series of games. This is a teaching game that is dedicated to enhancing vocabulary. The game offers two modes of play. The "Find the Missing Letter" game provides players with a six-letter word that is missing a letter. The player uses the stylus to enter the missing letter. In "Word Shuffle," players are given words and definitions that they must match to continue to higher levels of difficulty.

    "Word Jong"

    • In "Word Jong," the games of mah jong and Scrabble are combined. The lettered tiles are displayed in mah jong style and players must use the available tiles to create words just like in Scrabble. The longer the word and letters used, the higher the score. For example, just like in Scrabble, the tiles "Q" and "X" have higher point values. The tiles available to use are the top layer, just like in playing Mah Jong Solitaire, making a knowledge of mah jong prior to using this game an advantage.

    "Wordmaster"

    • "Wordmaster" is played in a fashion similar to hangman. Each game allows a certain amount of guesses to figure out the word. "Word Master" offers three different games, each based on six-letter words. The first game is "Wordmaster," which provides a category to help guess the words. The second game option is "Anagrams," which provides six letters for the player to unscramble. The last game is "Timed," which provides words with missing letters that the player must insert to move on to the next word. The more words completed, the more difficult the words become and the higher the player's score.
