How to Unlock DSi Wi-Fi

The Nintendo DSi is a powerful Internet and gaming system all in one. You can browse the Internet, download games and applications, even play on-line against other people by using your DSi Wi-Fi settings. To be able to do these things you will first need to set up your DSi via its wireless Wi-Fi connection, however the Nintendo Wi-Fi setting will only work if you have a wireless router and a broadband connection.

Instructions

  1. Basic Connection

    • 1

Turn on your Nintendo DSi and go to the main menu. Click on "System Settings" and then tap the "Wrench" icon. Go to the third page and click on "Internet." Now click on "Connection Settings," and select "None" for Connection 1.

    • 2

Click on "Search for an Access Point." Your DSi will now search for a wireless network within range. It can take a few minutes to do this search. Once it is finished searching, it will display the names of all the wireless networks it located.

    • 3

Look to see what icon appears next to your wireless networks name. You will see either a yellow unlocked button, a yellow locked icon or a gray locked icon. Depending on what icon is shown, you will need to take the appropriate steps to configure your Wi-Fi setting.

Yellow Unlocked Icon (No Security Setting)

    • 4

Tap on "OK." No security setting means there is no encryption on your router. You should be able to connect to the Wi-Fi with your current settings.

    • 5

Click on "Save Settings." The DSi settings will now be saved in its memory.

    • 6

Click on "Yes." A connection test will now run, it will either be successful or unsuccessful. If it was successful, you should now be connected to the Internet. If unsuccessful you will get an error code. (See tips below)

    Yellow Lock Icon (WEP Security)

    • 7

Enter your WEP security key. WEP means that your wireless network is secured with WEP encryption and requires a security key. You can enter your security key by tapping the empty field, type in your security key then tap on "OK" when finished.

    • 8

Select "Save Settings." Your wireless settings and password will now be saved in the game system's memory.

    • 9

Tap "Yes." The connection test will now run. It may take a few moments for the test to run. If the connection test was successful your DSi should be connected to the Internet, if it was not successful, you will receive an error code. (See tips below)

    Grey Lock Icon (WPA Security)

    • 10

Tap on your "Back Button" two times and access the "Advanced Setup Screen." On this screen tap on "WPA security." WPA security means that your network requires a security key.
