How to Go From the Hammer to Jumping on Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

Mario and Luigi are usually fighting against their nemesis, Bowser. But in "Mario &Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story," they are fighting from inside him. That is because Bowser has accidentally inhaled the two, and now they need to work together to stop Fawful, a new villain who is terrorizing the land. The brothers have access to a special hammer that lets them attack foes and hit switches. To use it, you must switch action commands. Action commands dictate what your character is able to do, such as jump, reach up or swing the hammer.

     Press the "R" button on the top of the Nintendo DS to switch to the hammer while in the field.

     Use "B" to make Luigi swing the hammer, or press "A" to have Mario swing it. This is useful if you need to trigger a switch. With the hammer, Mario is also able to break boxes and get items. If Luigi hits Mario with the hammer, he shrinks him.

     Press "R" again until the "Jump" icon, an upward-pointing arrow, appears in the action menu. As with the hammer, press "B" or "A" to make Luigi or Mario jump.
