Ranked Ribbons
Players earn ranked ribbons depending on the level of difficulty selected: normal, master hyper or super. They receive the ribbons for winning Pokemon contests within the game, including Cute Contest, Smart Contest, Cool Contest, Beauty Contest and Tough Contest. Players win each of these contests as they progress. For example, the Contest hall in Hearthome City hosts the Cute Contest.
Other Ribbons
Many other ribbons exist for various achievements. A player receives the Super Sketch Ribbon by placing a Pokemon's picture in the art gallery and earns the 50 Straight Win Commemorative Ribbon for fighting in the Battle Tower and winning 50 times in a row. Other achievement ribbons include a 100 Straight Wins Commemorative Ribbon and a ribbon given for hard work when a player shows a Pokemon with maxed effort value to an in-game character
Transferring Ribons
Because players can unload individual Pokemon creatures into different Pokemon games, they can carry ribbons from other games into "SoulSilver." However, if a player enters "SoulSilver" with a Pokemon that already has a specific ribbon, only a single ribbon will display when the trainer win the same ribbon in "Soul Silver." Players can only win one of each ribbon.
A Special Ribbon Benefit
When players win 10 ribbons they earn the right to go to the Resort Area Ribbon
Club. At the club, players massage their Pokemon, which increases its happiness. Pokemon creatures that evolve through happiness will greatly benefit from the Resort.
Tournament Ribbons
The Pokemon brand holds tournaments in various cities throughout the world. Ribbons for winning these tournaments are built into each Pokemon game and are only unlocked for real-life tourney winners. Players can hack the tournament ribbons, but using game-hacking tools may damage individual systems.
