How to Find Riolu in SoulSilver

Among the more elusive and demanding monsters in "Pokémon SoulSilver" is Riolu, who is located only in one specific place and requires a good deal of effort and patience to encounter. To lure Riolu out, you must first complete the initial quests to unlock the Safari Zone. These quests act as a tutorial for the Zone, and you should go through them before attempting to lure any rare Pokémon.

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to the Johto Safari Zone, which is to the northwest of Cianwood. Complete the initial quests of the Safari Zone to open up the potential of the entire area. The quests include catching a specific Pokémon in the Safari Zone and using the area map to customize your navigation. Once you complete the quests, you will receive the ability to accumulate blocks and customize zones.

    • 2

Wait for Baoba to give your character 10 forest objects (stumps, trees or branches) and 14 peak objects (small rocks, big rocks or mossy rocks). Baoba will eventually come up with the idea of using blocks to rearrange the areas within the Safari Zone. Each time he calls for the character, the maximum number of blocks will increase. He will call for the character four times in total. After the fourth time, the maximum number of blocks will increase to the amount you'll need for luring Riolu.

    • 3

Move to the Meadow area of the Safari Zone by moving to it on the Safari Zone navigation screen.

    • 4

Place the 10 forest objects and 14 peak objects in the area.

    • 5

Wait for 70 days (in terms of in-game time). Changing the date on your DS won't allow you to bypass this requirement; 70 days must elapse before Riolu will appear in the wild.

    • 6

Walk around the Meadow area of the Safari Zone. Riolu will pop up during a random encounter.

    • 7

Catch Riolu by throwing a Safari Ball, which will be provided to you at the entrance of the Safari Zone. Riolu can be very difficult to catch, as he frequently runs away, so it may take several attempts to capture him. You can throw mud or bait at him, but they make him either more likely to run away or harder to catch. Once you catch Riolu with the Safari Ball, he will be added to your collection.
