How to Get a Charmander From Professor Oak in Pokemon SoulSilver

In most "Pokemon" games, you are given the chance to choose a special Pokemon at the beginning of the game. This is called a starter Pokemon. In the "Pokemon SoulSilver" game, though, you can choose three different starters, one for each region you visit. If you want to acquire the fire-type Pokemon, Charmander, you must receive permission to travel to the Kanto region. There, you need to speak to Professor Oak to select your new starter Pokemon.

Instructions

  Complete the Johto region by collecting all eight badges from each of the gym leaders. You must also defeat the Elite Four and the Champion.

  Speak to Professor Elm to get a boat pass to Kanto. Travel to Olivine City. Get on the ferry to go to Kanto.

  Travel around Kanto and beat each of the eight gym leaders there to collect their badges. Go to Pallet Town and speak to Professor Oak, who grants you access to Mt. Silver.

  Head to Viridian City. Travel west to route 26. At the end of the route, go in the cave to enter Mt. Silver.

  Climb to the top of Mt. Silver. Red, your greatest rival, awaits your challenge. Defeat him in a battle, then return to Professor Oak in Pallet Town.

  Speak to Professor Oak. When he hears that you have beaten Red in battle, he lets you pick a new starter Pokemon. Choose the second Poke Ball to obtain Charmander.
