Birthday Greeting
Enter any chat room on your birthday (or the day you entered as your birthday in the device's system settings) to be greeted with the message "Happy Birthday! Today is [your name]'s birthday!"
Christmas and New Year's Greetings
PictoChat acknowledges two other significant days throughout the year. Enter any chat room on Christmas Day (December 25) or or New Year's Day (January 1) to receive a special -- though generic and unpersonalized -- Christmas or New Year's message.
Curvy Words
Tapping letters with the stylus is the easiest way to chat, but you can also use the stylus to drag letters over to the chat window. By dragging the letters you will also give the text a unique curved look.
Slower Scrolling
Hold the left shoulder button down and press the right shoulder button to make the chat windows scroll more slowly. Use this technique to slow down rapid-fire conversations or to slow down the speed of animations.
Rainbow Pen
Tap the pen icon on the screen until it starts flashing different colors. While the icon is flashing you can draw in the chat window to create pictures with a rainbow effect. This effect only works on the Nintendo DSi, but the images themselves can be saved and sent to DS and DS Lite devices.
Reverse Color
By default, PictoChat windows are white with black text. For an interesting inverted effect, color in the entire window black, then use your eraser to "draw" on the black surface to create white-on-black art.
Check Firmware
You can use PictoChat to see which version of firmware your DS is currently running. With a game in the cartridge slot, enter PictoChat Room A and remove the game from the slot. The screen will briefly turn a specific color, which corresponds to the firmware version. Version 6 is dark blue, Version 5 is pink, Version 4 is yellow, Version 3 is green, Version 2 is Blue-Gray and Version 1 is no color change.
