How to Catch a Pikachu in Ruby

Pikachu is one of the most famous Pokémon in the world, thanks to its starring role in both the games and animated series. Pikachu is a lightning-type Pokémon that can evolve into the powerful Raichu, making it a strong addition to any serious trainer's team. You have to earn access to a special area of "Pokemon Ruby" if you want to track down Pikachu in the game.

Instructions

  Travel to the Safari Zone in Hoenn. This natural preserve hosts a wide variety of rare Pokémon types. You will find the entrance to the Safari Zone on Route 121.

  Pay 500 credits to access the zone. You are not allowed to battle in this area or use your own pokeballs; you are given 30 special Safari Balls to use instead.

  Run around in the grass in the south central and southwestern areas of the map. You will encounter wild Pokémon, with about a 5 percent chance of finding a Pikachu.

  Throw one of your Safari Balls to capture Pikachu. Capturing Pokémon in the Safari Zone is not done through battle and depends almost entirely on luck.
