How to Obtain Chikorita in SoulSilver

Before setting off to explore the Johto region in "Pokémon SoulSilver," you need to obtain a Pokémon of your own, such as the grass-type Chikorita. When you first start the game, you have no Pokémon, and have rarely ventured away from your home, New Bark Town. One day, the famous researcher, Professor Elm, calls you to his lab. After seeing your potential as a trainer, he wants to give you a Pokémon. One Pokémon you are able to take from him is Chikorita.

Instructions

  1. Getting Chikorita as a Starter Pokemon

    • 1

Go to the main menu of "Pokémon SoulSilver." Tap the bottom option, "New Game."

    • 2

Tap the gender you want to play as. Enter a name for your character. The game begins with you at home in New Bark Town.

    • 3

Go downstairs and speak to your mother to collect your backpack. Exit the house.

    • 4

Enter the building in the top-left corner of the town. This is Professor Elm's lab. Speak to Professor Elm to hear his request.

    • 5

Agree to run his errand. Professor Elm sets three Poké Balls on the table. Select the middle Poké Ball to receive Chikorita.

    Trading for Chikorita via GTS

    • 6

Choose Totodile as your starter Pokemon when the game begins. Your rival chooses Chikorita as their starter, since Totodile is weak to its grass-type moves.

    • 7

Battle against your rival at least once. You need to see his or her Chikorita in battle before you are able to trade for it via the GTS. You will see Chikorita when you fight with your rival in Cherrygrove City and Sprout Tower.

    • 8

Go to Goldenrod City and travel to the west side of town, past the radio tower. Enter the GTS, also called the Global Terminal. Speak with the woman behind the counter in the top-left corner of the room. Say "Yes" when asked if you want to do a trade and connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi.

    • 9

Tap "Deposit Pokemon" to put up one of your Pokemon for trade. If you put up a very common or weak Pokemon, many people are not likely to want to trade with you for Chikorita. Put up a similarly valued Pokemon for trade.

    • 10

Select Chikorita as the Pokemon you want to receive. Wait for someone to accept these trading terms. When that happens, Chikorita is automatically sent to your PC, and the Pokemon you offered is removed.
