How to Lock a DSi

Nintendo DSi users have the ability to lock or block certain features. This ability is available as part of the parental controls. With the parental control settings on, the DSi will automatically block Internet and country settings, keep the system from being updated or the memory from being reformatted. In addition, you can block other features such as user-created content, games and chat. To truly lock out users, you must lower the game rating to "EC" and select "No" for the additional features, which will prevent anyone from being able to use the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Settings," represented by a wrench icon, from the Nintendo DSi main menu.

    • 2

Click the "Right Arrow" twice to reach the third page of options. Select "Parental Controls."

    • 3

Choose "Yes" and then hit "Next."

    • 4

Click "OK" to reach the PIN screen. Tap "Next" and enter a four-digit PIN using the on-screen keyboard.

    • 5

Click "OK" to save the PIN. Enter the PIN again when prompted, and tap "OK."

    • 6

Select a secret question and then select "OK."

    • 7

Enter the answer to the secret question using the on-screen keyboard. Click "OK."

    • 8

Tap the left and right arrows to select a gaming rating for the highest rating that is suitable for viewing on the system. The lowest rating is "EC," or "Early childhood," and the most mature rating is "AO," or "Adults only." There is also "RP" which stands for "Rating pending." To lock the DSi, select the lowest rating that will prevent anyone from playing any game on the device.
