How to Catch Magmar in the Safari Zone in HeartGold

In "Pokemon: HeartGold Version," if you're looking for a rare, hard-to-obtain Pokemon, head to the Safari Zone. The Safari Zone, greatly improved from previous games, now features the ability to place special objects on the ground to lure Pokemon out. If you want to catch Magmar, a powerful fire-type Pokemon, you're able to find him here. He makes his home in the Peak area of the Safari Zone, but catching him isn't always a simple task.

Instructions

- 1
  Go to the Safari Zone, located west of Cianwood City. Inside, you will receive 30 Safari Balls that you must use to catch Pokemon. No other Poke Balls are allowed inside.

  Tap the "Peak" square on the touch screen. Slide it next to the square where you are currently located. Walk to the exit of the current room to go to the Peak area.

  Use the touch screen to scroll through your Block items. These items, when properly placed, increase the chance that rare Pokemon will appear.

  Tap the "Small Rock," "Big Rock" or "Mossy Rock" item. Stand wherever you want the item to go. Press "A" to place the item. Continue placing items until there are 10 items in the Peak.

  Walk around the area until a wild Pokemon attacks you. If it is Magmar, throw your Safari Balls at him to capture him. If you don't catch him after two or three throws, he is likely to run away. If he does, keep walking around to find him again.
