How to Rename a Pokemon in HeartGold

Some Pokemon have names only a mother could love. After you catch a Pokemon you are immediately give the chance to give it a nickname. If you pass on this option you can still change the name of your Pokemon by visiting the Name Rater. The Name Rater evaluates your Pokemon's nicknames and lets you rename them for no charge. In "Pokemon HeartGold" the Name Rater can be found in Goldenrod City in the Johto region.

Instructions

- 1
  Travel to Goldenrod City. Goldenrod City is located in the central part of the Johto region and is southwest of Ecruteak City and northwest of Azaela Town.

  Head toward the northern exit of Goldenrod City. As you near the exit you will see a large tent to your right. If you have enter Route 35 you have gone too far.

  Enter the tent and talk to the Name Rater. The Name Rater will let you rename any Pokemon you caught in the wild or obtained via a trade with an NPC (non playable character). Pokemon traded with other "Pokemon HeartGold" players cannot be renamed.
