Instructions for Action Replay's Games N' Music

Developed by Datel for the "Action Replay" brand of video games accessories, "Games 'n' Music" is a cartridge that allows Nintendo DS owners to download homebrew (home-made unlicensed software) games from the Internet, listen to music and watch videos. Once the program's 128MB Micro SD card is plugged into the system, users can quickly transfer data and images from a Windows operating system PC via a USB cable. The device features a special video converter file and includes a 25-game CD of homebrew games.
  1. Downloading MP3s and Videos to Memory Card

    • Insert the Micro SD memory card into the Micro SD USB adapter, and then connect this adapter to a USB port on the PC. When recognized by the operating system, the device will be attributed a drive letter and MP3 music files can be added directly to the Micro SD card via "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer." Datel recommends users use the default folders of "Video,"" Audio," and "Games." Additional folders can also be created if you wish.

Creating D3V Video With MAX DS Video Converter

    • Video files can only be transferred to the memory card after conversion into the "Games 'n' Music" DV3 video format. Install the "MAX DS Video Converter" program on your PC by inserting the CD and following the on-screen instructions. Double-click the program icon, select the video file you wish to convert and click "Encode." Use your mouse to drag and drop the copy of the source video to the "Video" folder on the memory card.

Inserting Micro SD Card in "Games 'n' Music" Cartridge

    • Once you have selected, transferred and converted -- in the case of video files -- to your memory card, remove the storage device from the USB adapter. Insert the memory card into the slot in the top of the "Games 'n' Music" cartridge, slide the cartridge into the Nintendo DS and turn on the console.

Using "Games 'n' Music" to Play Audio and Video

    • Use your stylus to navigate the Nintendo DS's user-friendly menu on the system's lower touchscreen. To play a file or run a program from the memory card, simply double-tap the program's icon and the system's media player will automatically start to play the song or video. Folders are also opened with a double-tap of the stylus.

    Playing Games and Software

    • Use the "Games 'n' Music" browser to locate the .nds file you want and double-tap the console's lower screen. Datel advises that .nds files are stored in the default "Games" folder. Note that once you start playing a game or program, you can only return to the "Games 'n' Music" browser by rebooting the Nintendo DS.
