How to Get the Full Incense in Pokemon: HeartGold

"Pokemon HeartGold" is the updated version of the original "Pokemon Gold" and is only available on the Nintendo DS. The alternate equivalent of "HeartGold" is "Pokemon SoulSilver," a retooled version of the original "Silver." "HeartGold" features a host of additions to the original version: updated graphics, areas, items and game play. One of the items, the Full Incense, can be quite daunting for many players to find. The Full Incense provides special "benefits" to its holder, including a slowing of the chosen Pokemon and access to special eggs.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the Nintendo DS and start your game "Pokemon HeartGold." Load your game file or create a new one.

    • 2

Get all 16 Johto gym badges of both the Kanto and Johto regions. The first gym badge in the Johto region is the Zephyr Badge, followed by the Hive Badge in Azalea Town and the Plain Badge in Goldenrod City. The Fog Badge in Ecruteak City is the fourth, while the Storm Badge, Mineral Badge, Glacier Badge and the Rising Badge are in Cianwood City, Olivine City, Mahogany Town and Blackthorn City, respectively. Find all of these badges by following the main routes and stopping by in all of the large cities in Johto. After defeating Clair in Blackthorn City, you will have the ability to travel to the Elite Four and beat them.

    • 3

Travel to Kanto and get all of the badges there. Counter Lt. Surge in Vermillion with anti-lightning types, and neutralize Sabrina in Saffron City by avoiding all her psychic attacks. The Rainbow Badge in Celadon City is next, followed by the Cascade in Cerulean City, the Soul Badge in Fuchsia City, the Boulder Badge in Pewter, the Volcano at Seafoam Island and the Earth Badge in Viridian. The last foe is Blue, the Viridian City Gym Leader; he throws an eclectic mix of different types of Pokemon. Blue is best fought through a mixed selection of Pokemon favoring the specific weaknesses of his selections.

    • 4

Speak with Professor Oak, who is located in his lab in Pallet Town in the Kanto region. Simply use HM02: Fly to navigate to Pallet Town. After making conversation with him, he'll open up the route to Mt. Silver and hand you HM08: Rock Climb. Make sure your team is fully healed and ready for the upcoming challenges.

    • 5

Head over to Mount Mortar. Now that Oak has finally given you HM08: Rock Climb, go ahead and locate Mt. Mortar on your map. This large cave is on Route 42 in the Johto region and has three entrances. It is roughly in between Ecruteak City and Mahogany Town.

    • 6

Descend to the lower cave. The lower cave is a part of Mount Mortar and is accessible after you enter the structure. The Full Incense will be in the east part of the lower cave, requiring Rock Climb to get to. Press the "A" button to take the Full Incense. Once you grab it, assign the Full Incense to a Pokemon on your team to make it go last in battle.
