  Travel to Viridian Forest, located north of Viridian City.

  Walk in the tall grass until Pikachu is encountered. There is a five to six percent chance that any Pokemon encounter will be with a Pikachu.

  Capture Pikachu using a combination of status changing moves and your strongest Pokeball.

  Tap "Pkmn" at the bottom of the screen to access your Pokemon lineup. Place Pikachu in the first slot to ensure he is sent out first in battle, thus always gaining experience from each fight.

  Gain experience by battling wild Pokemon, other trainers, or using Rare Candy until Pikachu has reached level 40.
