How to Spot a Fake R4DS Card

The R4DS is among the most well-known and often used solutions for playing homebrew games on the Nintendo DS. It's also used for storing music and video, and of course, downloaded versions of commercial games. The R4DS itself is generally safe to use, but the fake versions sold by a variety of online retailers are not. Fake R4DS cards sold as real can have compatibility issues and even cause problems by "bricking" or disabling your system.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the R4DS package. If it doesn't have the "Micro SD" logo in the bottom right corner, the R4DS is a fake.

    • 2

Check for a sticker on the package indicating the storage capacity of the card. If the package has this sticker, the card inside is a fake.

    • 3

Look at the R4DS card itself for a sticker that indicates the storage capacity. Real R4DS cards do not have a sticker indicating their storage capacity.

    • 4

Feel the card. If it seems flimsy or poorly built, it may be a fake.
