How to Get the Kanto Starter in Pokemon SoulSilver

Each Pokémon game starts players in a certain geographic region. Games alternate through a few key regions, including Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh and Unova. The specific region in which you start controls the starter Pokémon to which you have access. For example, games that begin in the Kanto region offer Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, while games that begin in Johto offer Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil. While "Pokémon SoulSilver" begins in Johto, you have a chance to get one of the Kanto-starting Pokémon later on in the game.

Instructions

  Follow the natural storyline of "Pokémon SoulSilver," catching Pokémon and defeating the various gym masters in each town. You will need to earn all 16 gym badges from the Johto and Kanto regions.

  Head to Mt. Silver. You can find by traveling north on Route 28 from Kanto.

  Speak with Red at the top of the mountain. Red will challenge you to battle.

  Defeat Red. His lineup includes Pikachu (88), Venusaur (84), Lapras (80), Snorlax (82), Blastoise (84) and Charizard (84).

  Speak with Professor Oak after the battle. He will allow you to choose between the Kanto starters.
