How to Beat the Grappling Hook Temple in Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass

Knowing how to defeat the grappling hook temple in "The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass" can make the difference between equipping yourself with a powerful, useful weapon and being unable to complete the game. In the grappling hook temple, known as the temple of ice, you must slip and slide your way across bridges, find the grappling hook and face a two-headed monster. If your find yourself dying due to the monster's dual heads, knowing when to dodge and attack can help you obtain the important Pure Metal.

Instructions

    • 1

Take out your grappling hook and draw a diagonal line across your NDS touchscreen to create a diagonal tightrope to redirect the fire and ice against each other. Since the two-headed Gleeok monster spits out ice and fire, the fire head will harm the ice head and vice versa.

    • 2

Move out of the way, because the head that attacked last will destroy the rope and anything in its path. The head will either attack once or twice. If the head hits you, you will lose one heart.

    • 3

Redirect and dodge for three successful hits, and then Gleeok will swim into its body of water and create a massive tidal wave. Dodge the tidal wave and chunks of ice by jumping onto the poles near the battle arena with your grappling hook.

    • 4

Jump off the pole to avoid the flying icebergs after you have dodged the tidal wave. After the water has disappeared, Gleeok will reappear for more carnage.

    • 5

Repeat the redirection and dodging three more times to destroy Gleeok's protective mask, a mask that resembles the spider's mask in this temple, and then dodge another tidal wave attack. After three tidal waves, Gleeok will surface and will go into phase two.

    • 6

Use the grappling hook when Gleeok is about to attack by connecting the hook to the monster's tongue, and then to the closest pole. The grappling hook will force the head to slam into the pole. With the head stunned, attack it with your sword until the stun has worn off.

    • 7

Dodge another iceberg and tidal wave, and then repeat the head to pole slamming. Each head must be defeated three times. Once defeated, Gleeok will explode into sand and add two minutes to your phantom hourglass.

    • 8

Obtain the new heart container across the bridge, and then obtain the Pure Metal. The Pure Metal is used later to forge the Phantom Hourglass. After you are done, step on the blue portal to revisit the temple's entrance and complete the temple.
