Finding Heart Scales

  Travel to Violet City and speak with the man near the Sudowoodo Tree to receive the hidden machine Rock Smash.

  Fly to Cianwood City, the Dark Cave, the Rock Tunnel, Route 19, Vermillion City or Victory Road and approach the rocks. Use your Rock Smash move to randomly find Heart Scales. One Heart Scale equals one relearned move. The probability of finding Heart Scales is extremely low, so you will have to spend a lot of time finding rocks and smashing them.

  Fly to Blackthorn City and visit the Move Learner in the house near the Blackthorn City Gym. Approach the male in the house and give him a Heart Scale. He will allow you to choose a Pokémon and the move that you want your Pokémon to learn.

Buying Heart Scales

  Visit the Pokéathlon, west of National Park, and talk to the representative at the desk. The Pokéathlon is a competition in which three of your Pokémon compete in a speed, power, skill, stamina or jumping competition. Choose three Pokémon and one event.

  Play each round with your selected Pokémon. For example, with the speed event, race around the track and come in first place. You will receive points from every event, as well as an extra 100 points for coming in first place.

  Access the desk to the left of the representative's desk to swap your points for the Heart Scale. Heart Scales are only sold on Wednesdays and Sundays, and cost 1,000 Pokéathlon points.

  Visit the Move Learner in Blackthorn City after you purchase the Heart Scales. Approach the move learner and give him your Heart Scale to allow your Pokémon to relearn a move.
