How to Put WiFi & Internet on Your DSi

Nintendo created a built-in Wi-Fi configuration wizard on every DSi, allowing the device to connect to the Internet. Despite this feature's inclusion in the DSi's operating software, many gamers still run into problems when trying to connect to Wi-Fi. The DSi supports WEP and WPA encryption. Problems arise when completing the basic setup only to find you cannot connect to the network because it has a silver lock icon next to it. This means the network has the more secure WPA encryption, which requires you to backtrack to the "Advanced Setup" wziard to get the DSi online.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip your DSi's "Power" switch to turn on the device. The unit's built-in menu system loads.

    • 2

Touch the green wrench icon labeled "System Settings. A menu loads with several pages.

    • 3

Scroll to the third page in the "System Settings" menu.

    • 4

Touch "Internet" to load the Internet setup wizard.

    • 5

Tap the "Connection Settings" option at the top. A list of your saved connections appears. All connections will read "None" if you have not set up any Wi-Fi connections.

    • 6

Tap the "None" option next to "Connection 1."

    • 7

Select the "Search for an Access Point" button from the "Connection 1" menu. The DSi scans for Wi-Fi signals in range and displays a results list after a few seconds.

    • 8

View the lock icon next to the Wi-Fi network's listing in your DSi's results section. If the lock icon is gold, proceed to Step 13. If the lock icon is silver, you must access the "Advanced Setup" because your network includes WPA security rather than the more basic WEP security.

    • 9

Tap "Back" two times to reach the "Internet" setup menu again.

    • 10

      Tap "Advanced Setup."

    • 11

Tap "None" next to "Connection 4."

    • 12

Select the "Search for an Access Point" button from the "Connection 4" menu. The DSi scans for Wi-Fi signals in range and displays a results list after a few seconds.

    • 13

Touch the network's listing on the results page.

    • 14

      Enter the Wi-Fi network's password.

    • 15

      Touch "OK."

    • 16

Tap "Save Settings." The network saves to the DSi.

    • 17

Tap "Yes" to connect to the network.
